Bottle, Baby
Bottle, Baby was constructed in 2004. Excerpts from three sources (my private journal, a "bodice-ripper" romance novel, and an emotionally distressing email I had received) were hand-written onto transparency film, and then cut apart in a William Burroughs-like "cut-ups" fashion into random phrases and combinations of words. These segments were then placed into the bottle, which was filled with slightly tinted water. When the bottle is shaken, the phrases swirl and float about and eventually settle, permitting the viewer to almost make sense of some of them. (The piece has an unexpected addictive "magic 8-ball" kind of quality.)
